A collection of ten military medals valued at a total of $35,000 are to go under the hammer. The medals were awarded to Canon Frederick G Scott, a Canadian who fought in WWI and had been senior chaplain to the 1st Canadian Division, according to the London Free Press.
Among the medals up for sale are the rare Royal Canadian Humane Association's Sanford Medal in Gold and the Distinguished Service Order.
Despite being ordered to remain away from the front line, Scott regularly journeyed to the trenches. He visited soldiers on the frontlines at Ypres, the Somme, Vimy Ridge and the Battle of Arras.
At the time of his death, the war hero was described by the Montreal Star as "a man of liberal culture and wide sympathies, a patriot whose heart has thrilled with the truth of the larger life, political, social and religious, a man of strong courage born of reverent unquestioning faith."
The auction will be held at Jeffrey Hoare Auctions on July 16th.
