Bonhams 28th Annual Dog Art Sale looms - 28/01/2010
Bonhams is to host the genre-leading 28th Dog Art Sale next month at its New York site, the auction house has revealed. The highly-anticipated sale will feature an array of dog-related art and collectibles, from paintings of well known breeds to compositions by celebrated artists of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Arguably the most exciting lot of the event is a dog collar that once belonged to Charles Dickens, a known animal lover.
With a toothpick once owned by the writer selling for $9,150 in December, many people attending the auction will be curious as to what figure the gavel falls on for this lot. The pre-sale estimate has been put at $4,000 to $6,000.
Work by foremost dog artist John Emms will form the most eagerly anticipated lots of the event, with six of his pieces to be put up for sale in total.
In 2006, Emms' The New Forest Hounds sold for the world record price of $842,250.
The auction, which will take place on February 16th, promises to be an exciting affair for art and dog lovers - one that they would be barking mad to miss out on.
