Damien Hirst masterpiece on displayTorre Abbey in Devon will be showcasing Mother and Child, Divided by Damien Hirst until August 30th.

The piece was created in 1993 and was the focal point of the 1995 Turner Prize gallery at the Tate Britain, which consequently Hirst won.

It comprises of a cow and calf, each cut in half and preserved in a glass-wall tank full of a formaldehyde solution.

The floor-based sculpture weighs 6.5 tonnes.

Councillor Dave Butt from Torbay Council said: "Damien Hirst is such a well known artist and this is a fantastic opportunity for not just for Torre Abbey, but the whole of the Bay.

"It will help boost the council's long-term plan to be an exciting space for contemporary art and a leading light amongst seaside cultural hotspots."

Hirst was born in Bristol in 1965 and is the most prominent member of Young British Artists, which also includes Tracey Emin.
