Ferris Bueller's fake Ferrari to be sold - 30/03/2010
A replica Ferrari created for the 1986 film Ferris Bueller's Day Off, is to be sold at auction. The vehicle, a red soft-top 250GT Spyder California imitation, is expected to fetch £40,000 when it goes under the hammer.
Bonhams, which will oversee the sale, has revealed that the car was commissioned by film production outfit Paramount on account of the real version being too rare and expensive.
Indeed, Ferrari made around only 100 genuine 250GT Spyder California's between 1958 and 1963.
The car, which is ready to be driven off the auction block, will be put up for sale on April 19th at the RAF Museum in Hendon, London.
The lot will form part of Bonhams' Collectors' Motor Cars and Automobilia auction.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off, which starred Matthew Broderick, grossed $70 million when it was released in the US.
