Guitar signed by Sting up for auction - 19/03/2010

Guitar signed by Sting up for auctionA guitar once owned by Sting is to go under the hammer to raise money for charity, it has been revealed.

The instrument, which has been given a presale estimate of between £400 and £800, will be sold at auction in Cockermouth, Cumbria, with all monies raised going towards helping the victims of the Cumbria floods, according to the News & Star.

Auctioneer Mark Wise said he hoped the auction would help encourage people to spend in the local area after the gavel has fallen on the final lot.

He told the news provider: "It's a two-day sale and they are usually well attended. Hopefully after the sale people will go into Cockermouth and go to the shops or have a meal. Antiques shops tend to get spin-off trade as well."

Other items to be sold at the event include a letter from Beatrix Potter, maps of the local area and a Wordsworth manuscript.

The auction will take place on March 25th 26th at Mitchells' saleroom.
