Kent artists auction pieces for Haiti appealAn auction of contemporary art in Kent has helped to raise thousands of pounds for people in Haiti affected by the country's devastating earthquake.

Cranbrook-based artists Kristina Avery and Kate Crook organised the auction, which featured 83 lots of stemming from artists' private collections across the Kent and Sussex region, kentnews.co.uk reports.

Ms Avery, a trained potter, told the news provider that the auction had gone "fantastically well".

"It was very nerve-wracking organising the auction, as I knew we had had a lot of hits on our website, but you never know if people will turn up on the day," she commented.

Ms Avery went on to say that the turnout was "amazing" and that most people who came along intended to make a bid.

Approximately 100 people attended the auction, which raised a total of £13,800. Many of those who bid had never attended an auction before.
