Post-war art makes £13m at auctionChristie's held the Post-War and Contemporary Day sale on July 1st and made £13,098,000 from 207 lots.

The highest-selling pieces were Untitled by Martin Kippenberger and Blue Idiot by Steven Parrino, which both fetched £433,250.

Flowers by Warhol made £265,000 and Concetto Spaziale, Attese by Lucio Fontana sold for £361,000.

Dina Amin and Lock Kresler, co-heads of the auction at Christie's, said: "We saw strong bidding from a global audience at the auction and welcomed a number of collectors who were new to Christie's.

"We saw particularly determined bidding for works by the most recognized Post-War artists from the 1960s and early 1970s including Warhol, Calder and Lichtenstein."

Fishes II by Calder fetched £385,000. Calder was an American sculptor and artist famous for inventing the mobile – a form of kinetic sculpture.
