The vases are the headliners of the auction – the first of its type by Sotheby's – and are estimated to fetch between £1.4 million and £1.8 million.

These pieces feature reproductions of the Heritage by Dutch Old Master Jan Van Loo and stand at 1.5 metres high.

Over 21 lots will be appearing at the auction ranging from the 16th century to the 19th century. A variety of objects will be up for grabs including silver, furniture, textiles and decorative art.

The vases were made during the reign of Nicholas I (1825 to 1855). He is known as one of the most reactionary emperors in Russian history.
