Tony Hart exhibition auction raises money for charity - 03/03/2010

A secret auction for a piece of Tony Hart art work has helped raise money for charity.

The auction took place during the Tony Hart Retrospective exhibition, a showcase for a variety of the TV artist's creations, according to thisiskent.co.uk.

With more than 1,000 people attending, the secret auction proved a great success and a total of £3,837 was raised for the Gurkha Welfare Trust.

Councilor Brian Moss, cabinet member for leisure and culture, celebrated the work of the artist's daughter Carolyn in setting up the event and raising such a sum for a good cause.

He told the news provider: "This is a staggering sum of money which will go to a very worthy cause. Maidstone has been waiting a long time for a Tony Hart exhibition and thanks to Carolyn it has been made possible."

The exhibition and auction took place at Hazlitt Art Centre's Graham Clarke Gallery.

Tony Hart was a member of the Gurkha Rifles.
