LOT NUMBER 15
Georgian Egyptian Revival silver and enamel Brooch, c1820
This is a very rare brooch from the Georgian period when Egyptian iconography was inspired by Napoleon Bonaparte's military campaigns. This type of Egyptian Revival work was more stylised than the later and more accurate Egyptian Revival designs that drew upon the artifacts during the found the discovery and excavation of Tutankhamun's tomb in the 1920s. Almost slightly abstract in design, the brooch bears French hallmarks and dates to the early nineteenth century.
