LOT NUMBER 6
Vintage French cold painted iron recipe book Stand, c1930
The central motif of a duck and the general format of this piece suggests that it is a recipe book holder. It is made from cold plated iron and on the front is a stylised garden scene in openwork with bright enamel colourings and the central figure of a duck. There is a small ledge below which is complemented by two holes at the top of the reverse, doubtless intended to hold cords to keep the book open in its desired place. The reverse is painted in dark green and supported by a circular stand with a wing nut for adjustment. It is usually suggested that these pieces are French (the home, after all, of haute cuisine!) and they were most likely made before the Second World War. This is a lovely example with the colours still very vibrant and was clearly well cared for, as items like this tend to be in poor condition. A decorative and highly practical accessory for a contemporary kitchen!Size: | 23 cm high, 26 cm wide |
