Powder compact with a lizard skin lid made by Patrys, France, 1950s
This is an elegant rectangular powder compact with many of the usual elements. The lid opens to reveal a mirror on its underside and a hinged gilt metal plate which opens itself to reveal the powder sifter and the base below which is marked ‘Patrys’ ‘Made in France’. Some examples come with a rectangular powder puff, absent here, also marked ‘Patrys’ which would have been used to dab the powder through the sifter before application. Little is known about the manufacturer, but the firm Patrys produced a wide variety of powder compacts in the 1950s and early 1960s characterised by their style and design. This example has a lizard skin lid which has survived in excellent condition and an engine turned design of horizontal lines to the underside. Doubtless less expensive than models from the rather more well known fashion houses, Patrys’ productions could well match them in quality and this example of their work is certainly a collector’s item today.| Size: | Width 8cm, Depth 6cm, Ht 1cm |
