Japanese Imari Dish with a lobed edge circa 1880

A Japanese Imari Dish of circular form with a lobed edge, typically decorated in underglaze blue, red enamel, iron red and gold with a fabric derived 'brocade form' design, the central panel with stylised flowers and the underglaze blue border with flower heads (peony, lotus, chrysanthemum) interspersed with irregularly shaped segments in red enamel (stylised foliage and bats) and iron red (geometric design), the reverse with lotus and stylised floral sprays in underglaze blue. Paste of the foot and style of decoration indicate a circa date of around 1880, towards the beginning of the Meiji period (1868 - 1912).
