Pair of Cash’s Woven Pictures, Butterflies and Wild Flowers, second half C20th
The firm Cash’s, strictly speaking J&J Cash Ltd, founded in 1846 was to become synonymous with woven name tapes which they manufacture to this day but their output comprised a wide variety of woven products in general and included tapestry pictures some of which, again, are still produced at the present time. It seems to have been from the 1950s onwards that they issued these woven pictures in themed sets under the title ‘Collector Series’. These were popular at the time and are still sought after now. The labels at the back of these two designs explain everything in more detail and their format indicates that these are early examples of the issue of this particular group, titled ‘Butterflies and Wild Flowers’, which comprised six different images. While machine made, there is considerable detail in the work and artistry in the composition. The frames are an apt complement and perhaps one day this pair might be joined by the other members of the group to form a striking and decorative display.| Size: | Frames : Width 16.8cm, Ht 26.5cm, Depth 1.2cm Silk Panels : Width 7.5cm, Ht 16cm |
