Abstract design studio pottery vase, signed E.E. Lewis 1954

An attractive studio pottery vase of broad ovoid form with a short stepped foot and a cylindrical rim, glazed overall in speckled brown with a slight craquelure, the pronounced potting rings showing through, and decorated with an incised design of abstract organic motifs, the base glazed, also with clear traces of the potting rings, and with an incised signature ‘E.E.Lewis 1954’. The maker cannot be otherwise identified but was clearly an accomplished amateur and the form and decoration combine to produce an elegant decorative piece.
