LOT NUMBER 27
Experimental Bowl for glazes marked TESTS and signed JD
An unevenly potted bowl of irregular round form the straight sides narrowing to the base, the exterior covered with a selection of glazes and patterns principally in blues, greens and browns on a cream ground, the interior and base also glazed cream, the word ‘TESTS’ written on the exterior and the interior and the centre of the interior and the base with incised initials ‘JD’. This is a curiosity piece showing the artist, who cannot be identified, experimenting with various glaze effects and colours. While intended as nothing more, it has a naif charm of its own and is a reminder, perhaps, that artistic effects do not necessarily occur without practice runs first. Secure dating is nearly impossible and perhaps not essential for a ‘trial piece’ such as this.| Size: | Ht 9cm, Top diam 7.5cm-8.2cm, Base 9.5cm |
| Weight: | 545gm |
| Date: | C20th/C21st |
