LOT NUMBER 23
Studio Pottery Bowl with Yukishino style glaze, signed M Lazenbury, C20th
A studio pottery circular bowl, the walls incurving towards the top and base, the exterior glazed in cream with comb line markings with highlights in grisaille and brown splash glazes, the interior predominantly glazed in brown and the base unglazed, showing the stoneware body with pronounced potting rings within the foot and an incised signature ‘M.Lazenbury’. For the time being the potter of this piece can only be identified by the name inscribed but he or she was clearly an accomplished artist since the pleasing form combined with glaze effects which take after Japanese ‘Yukishino’ wares in which a natural, soft white or cream-colored glaze is combined with, earthy brown and green speckles and tones. The splash glaze effects are an addition to this but are fully in the tradition of the work of other rather better known artists making this bowl a pleasing addition to a collection of studio ceramics which reflect Japanese taste.| Size: | Diam (top) 11cm, Width (max) 13cm, Base 7.5cm |
| Weight: | 430gm |
| Date: | C20th |
| Condition: | Good condition, no issues. |
| Estimate: | £30 – 40 |
