LOT NUMBER 2
Studio Pottery Charger with tenmoku glaze, signed, C20th
A large studio pottery charger or shallow dish of uneven circular form, the side raised at the edge forming a well defined wall, the front surface with a black and ochre speckled ‘tenmoku’ style glaze liberally decorated with abstract shapes in off white with ochre outlines, the reverse unglazed and with a boldly painted signature mark. Various influences can be seen here, for example Michael Cardew and perhaps rather more distantly Shoji Hamada, but neither the maker nor the mark used can at present be identified. But this is clearly the work of an accomplished artist offering an individual interpretation of classic glaze effects.| Size: | Ht 4.5cm, Diam 36cm -37cm, Base 36cm - 35cm |
| Weight: | 2.71kg |
| Date: | C 20th |
| Condition: | Good condition, no issues. |
| Estimate: | £30 – 40 |
