牙雕观音像两座, 清代晚期(1644-1911), 连木座
the first figure elegantly carved standing with her face tilted with downcast eyes, wearing long flowing robes with fabric also draping over her hair styled with a high chignon, a long ribbon floating up and around behind her left shoulder and folding over her arms, her right hand holding a long lotus stem, with the flower and leaf alongside her head, on a foliate shaped wood base; the second figure carved again standing with her arms crossed gently across her body, her left hand holding rolled scriptures and her right handing holding a string of prayer beads, on a lotus flower shaped base and with a shaped wood stand (4)
Provenance:
Purchased in Shanghai during the 1950s on a honeymoon trip by the parents of the present owner and thence by descent
两座观音面相秀美, 双目垂视, 着长袍, 发冠高耸, 一观音一手持莲花, 一手做手印, 衣带飘扬, 形象柔美; 一观音双手围腰, 左右手各持佛经及念珠, 形象端庄。两座立像均配有莲花状木座
此两座牙雕为藏家父母1950年代于上海渡蜜月时所购得
