a page from the Bhagavata Purana, gouache with gold on paper, labelled in devanagari in numerous places, the reverse filled with twenty-six lines of text from the epic and Datia state tasvirkhana stamp, framed. Sukadeva, the sage, recites the purana to King Parikshit (centre, top), surrounded with festival scenes of Krishna being worshipped at Vrindaban. In the top left corner Krishna is in discussion with Udhava. In the foreground, another sage reads holy texts to a devotee, Krishna undertakes yogic exercises and Sukadeva walks in the forest.
