LOT NUMBER 71
A silver filigree decorative Spoon, probably Portugese early C20th
This is a delicately worked silver filigree spoon with an openwork bowl in the form of a shell with stylised leaves, the slender handle of rope twist design with a stylised floral terminal at the end. Of a decorative rather than practical design, although it is sometimes suggested that these spoons are sugar sifters, the style of the delicate filigree work here suggests the product of Portugese silversmiths, as in Lot 63 in this sale, and dating is probably to the early years of the twentieth century.3rd November 2026 : Please note the revised cataloguing of this lot.
