LOT NUMBER 115
Liberty English Pewter tray, Tudric range, designed Archibald Knox, model no. 0359, with marks, early C20th
A pewter tray or cake stand of ovoid form with a high loop handle, the openwork sides with stylised foliage and berries and the base of the handle also with a stylised foliate design, the underside with stamped marks ‘9’ ‘TUDRIC’ ‘ENGLISH PEWTER’ ‘LIBERTY & CO’ ‘0359’.These trays formed part of the Tudric range sold by Liberty’s of London in the early twentieth century. Model number 0359, which was made in the early 1900s, was a design by Archibald Knox and reflects the Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts styles of the period. Some of these trays come with a blue enamel plaque to the interior but this seems to have been an optional addition and does not necessarily enhance the overall design.
