Scandinavian silver dress clip, marked 830, probably Danish Skønvirke, early C20th

This is a very unusual dress clip from Scandinavia, most likely Denmark as part of the 'Skønvirke' movement which was one of the most fashionable design styles in Scandinavia and especially Denmark in the early twentieth century. Skønvirke translates as 'beautiful work' and describes an aesthetic which has many similarities with and borrowings from the Arts and Crafts movement in England, French Art Nouveau and German Jugendstil design. The emphasis is on simple and practical forms for everyday use, of which this dress clip is a typical example. It is marked 830 which was the silver standard in Scandinavia in the early twentieth century and commonly found on Danish pieces of the period.
