LOT NUMBER 2
Chřibská Glass bowl designed by Josef Hospodka, Czech 1970s
An organically formed sculptural glass bowl or ashtray, of trefoil form with an undulating rim and three projecting ‘knobs’ above the flat base, the colourings merging from green to amber with clear glass at the base. This piece was made at the Chřibská glassworks in Czechoslovakia and can be seen in their 1970s catalogue with the pattern number 240/5/20. An entry in issue 12 of the 1964 Czech Glass Review confirms the designer as Josef Hospodka who was chief designer at Chřibská from 1958 to 1970 and again from 1985 to 1989. His organic, sculptural blown glass designs enjoyed great popularity and some remained in production until the factory closed in 2007. The colourings here are particularly pleasing and this is an excellent example of his work.Size: | Ht (max) 10cm, Width (max) 20cm, Base (max) 5.8cm |
