Hula Pattern glass Vase by Bob Crooks, signed by the artist, modern
This is a striking vase by Bob Crooks, one of Britain’s most highly respected contemporary glassmakers (see image 8). Born in 1965, Crooks studied at the Humberside College of Higher Education and the West Surrey College of Art & Design where he took a BA (Hons) in 1989. After working with other studios, he set up his own in 1990, moving to Devon in 2002 where he has since been producing his distinctive pieces of art glass under the name ‘Bob Crooks: First Glass’. The vase here is from the range in the ‘hula pattern’ (the name deriving from the well known brand of crisps) and can be seen in a variety of forms and colours on his website. The version here is particularly pleasing, the irregular flattened ovoid shape enhanced by the bright blue of the body set with scattered yellow ‘hula hoops’. This is, in fact, a unique creation since each of Hobbs pieces are designed, handmade and finished by him without the use of moulds. His signature appears etched on the base in common with all his other works. The appeal is obvious and an excellent example of the skill and artistry of the maker.Size: | H 14.5 cm W 15 cm D 4cm |
