LOT NUMBER 10
Pair of Art Deco glass Vases with applied silver snakes, 1930s
This is a very unusual pair of glass vases with no obvious parallels. The shape is that of a slender beaker vase flaring out towards the base and neck. The black glass of the body has a narrow band of silvered decoration at the top and bottom and applied silver snakes are coiled around the centre, making an effective contrast. The clean lines of the pieces imply a dating to the Art Deco era and the decoration, with its reflection of Egyptian Revival, suggests manufacture in France but this is not certain. But whatever the provenance these vases are striking decorative accessories which could find a home in the most contemporary of interiors.Size: | H 22 cm W 10.2 cm |
