LOT NUMBER 16
Owl glass Vase, Italian probably Murano, second half C20th
An art glass vase of globular beaker form, the front face modelled as the face of an owl with raised ears at the side and the base flat, the amber coloured glass with diagonal flecks, presumably intended to represent fur and the base with layers of glass employing the ‘sommerso’ technique. Similar owl vases were made by the Cristalleria d’Arte glassworks at Murano, Venice but these are of a slightly different shape and the eyes are rendered in black and white. But the techniquese employed here, particularly the ‘sommerso’ layers at the base are typical of Murano work and this seems to be the most likely provenance. The chunky modelling suggests a dating to the 1960s for this amusing and skilfully made piece.| Size: | H 10.5 cm W 10 cm |
