LOT NUMBER 1
Swirl design art glass Vase, probably Italian, second half C20th
An impressive art glass vase stoutly blown and of compressed globular form, the concave neck rising to a flaring rim, decorated in mottled blues and pinks with a continuous swirl design merging into white at the top, the interior rim with white flecks and the decoration continuing to the base with an irregular circle to the centre, possibly a pontil mark indicating that the piece has been hand blown. There are no direct parallels for this finely made piece but the work seems to be Italian if not, perhaps, from the glassworks at Murano itself. Both the form and decoration indicate a maker of some skill and the vase is extremely heavy which is an additional sign of quality in the manufacture. Dating is probably to the 1960s or 1970s but this highly decorative vase would be a fine accessory for any contemporary interior.| Size: | Ht 17.2cm, Width (max) 17cm, Top diam 9.3cm, Base 10cm |
