Two art glass pedestal Bowls, Jozephina Glassworks, Krosno, Polish c1980

Two complementary glass pedestal bowls, the hemispherical bowl supported by three twisting tubes of glass set on a wide flat base slightly raised towards the centre, the bowls decorated with marble effect designs to the exterior and plain glass in two different shades of cream to the interior, the supports in clear glass encasing pale gold and black strands of glass respectively which continue into the base as spirals. Although not marked, the form of these glasses is quite reasonably attributed to the Jozephina glassworks at Krosno, Poland. Founded by Jozef Jankowski in 1980, the firm specialises in high quality pieces with innovative designs, many by Jozef’s daughter Ella Jankowska Fishman. Their repertoire today still includes both marble effect decoration and twisting spiral supports but this bowl or bonbonniere shape seems no longer to be produced and probably belongs to their earliest years in the 1980s. A truly virtuoso creation which probably deserves to be admired today rather than put to practical use!
