LOT NUMBER 5
Blue glass handkerchief Vase, possibly Poland, late C20th
The form of this vase the circular base rising to a dramatically wavy edge rim is known as ‘handkerchief’ from its resemblance to the folds of a dropped cloth or handkerchief. The shape seems to have been developed in the 1950s and was taken up by makers in Poland and Italy and also the Lenox glassworks in America. More delicate than its American counterparts and of a clearer glass than the Italian examples, this vase was most likely made in Poland in the late twentieth century, but the firm which produced it cannot be identified. It is, though, a most successful interpretation of the model, the delicately tinted glass forming a satisfyingly organic shape.| Size: | Ht (max) 29cm, Width (max) 25cm, Base 9cm |
