LOT NUMBER 3
Italian tiger stripe glass Handbag, possibly Murano, second half C20th
This is a novelty glass item made in the form of a handbag with a barrel shape body and large loop handles, with orange and black stripes resembling tiger’s fur and the interior encased in white. These pieces are often described as Murano style and some carry a label for the ‘Vincenza Collection’. The work, in fact, does resemble Murano pieces very closely, particularly the glass wrapped candies produced there, and the slight depression to the base (see image 10) is a typical Murano feature so manufacture there, probably in the later years of the twentieth century, is more than a possibility. These bags could possibly be used for the display of flowers or even to act as bonbonnieres, but it is as decorative items that they most appeal.| Size: | Ht (max) 17cm, Width (max) 11cm, Depth (max) 8cm |
