LOT NUMBER 15
Pair of red glass Pears, possibly Murano, late C20th
A pair of glass pears of typical form, the fruit in cherry red glass blending with black glass at the base and the stalks in clear glass. Various glassworks produced pear shape fruit during the mid to late years of the twentieth century, but the style of these suggests Italian work and perhaps manufacture at Murano, where a variety of fruit shapes were produced. Certainly, the finish of the base, with a flat circle to the centre, and the mixture of two types of glass to the body are typical features of Murano pieces. Highly decorative, this pair of fruit can be regarded either as ornaments or, more functionally, paperweights.| Size: | (i) Left : Ht 14.5cm, Width (max) 7.5cm, Base 3.5cm (ii) Right : Ht 15cm, Width (max) 7.5cm, Base 4cm |
| Weight: | 710gm (pair) |
| Date: | Late C20th |
| Condition: | Good condition generally, the left pear with a slight firing flaw where the stalk joins the fruit (see images 7,8) |
| Estimate: | £30 – 40 |
