LOT NUMBER 18
Purple art glass bowl with a streaky wave design, probably Italian late C20th
This is an unusual glass bowl of irregular ovoid form, the purple glass thickening at the rim and merging with a polychrome streaked wavy design at the base. There are no exact parallels for this bowl although it clearly required considerable skill in its construction. Slightly similar designs can be seen in a series of bowls, ‘Contrast’, designed by Anna Ehrner for Kosta Boda, and slightly similar shapes in the ‘folded’ bowls made at Murano; indeed the streaked wave design is also very similar to effects found in Murano pieces. While neither of these are close matches, an Italian provenance seems the most likely but perhaps not one of the Murano workshops. More research is needed but for the time being this interesting bowl well deserves to be enjoyed on its own merits.| Size: | Width (max) 27.5cm, Depth (max) 21.5cm, Ht (max) 12.5cm, Base (oval) 10.7cm x 10cm |
| Weight: | 2.15kg |
| Date: | Late C20th |
