LOT NUMBER 36
Art Deco style Perfume Bottle and Cover, Ernst Buder, Germany, 1960s
A crystal glass perfume bottle and stopper, the rectangular footed base with a flattened ovoid stopper, the whole elaborately decorated with pressed abstract and floral designs intended to imitate cut glass. While similar to the productions of the Czech glassworks in the 1930s and sometimes described as such, these art deco style perfume bottles were made by the German firm, Ernst Bruder, and the model here can be seen in their catalogue from 1960 (see image 7).Ernst Bruder was a family run glassworks situated at Volpriehausen, Lower Saxony, Germany, which produced high quality pressed and mouth-blown crystal glass that was exported throughout Europe from 1950 to 1987, when the business unfortunately went into liquidation. Many of their pieces reflect the Art Deco style and this perfume bottle is one of their most successful recreations.
