LOT NUMBER 3
Art glass vase with Beer Man (ölgubbe) face, Lars Hellsten, Skruf Glass, Sweden, 1960s/1970s
A heavily blown glass vase of rectangular form, the front and back with mask heads, the sides dimpled and the top rim with vertical indented lines. This strange piece is one of the designs made by Lars Hellsten for the Swedish glassworks Skruf, founded in 1897 and well known for its high quality utility and art glass wares. Hellsten (see image 9) was one of the artists working there in the 1960s and 1970s and made a variety of pieces with these strange faces which he termed ‘ölgubbe’ or ‘Beer Man’. Similar pieces are found with the head of an owl and sometimes these were signed by him allowing a reasonably firm provenance here.| Size: | Ht 12cm, Diam (top rim) 8cm, Diam (body) 11cm, Base 10cm |
| Weight: | 590gm |
| Date: | 1960s/1970s |
