LOT NUMBER 16
Square red glass Vase with a clear glass trail, possibly Polish, Josefina Atelier, late C20th
An unusual square glass vase, heavily blown, the body flaring slightly outwards at the top towards the gently curved rim, the rich red coloured glass encircled in the lower section of the body by a clear glass ‘trail’, the base with a square recess and a concave roundel at the centre. There are few parallels for this piece and its attribution is more a matter of guesswork but the closest resemblances seem to be from the Polish glassworks, Josefina Atelier, founded at Krosno in 1980 by Jozef Jankowski, whose designs do include pieces with glass ‘trails’ and an example quite similar to this piece, which appears to be no longer available can be seen in image 11. They write of themselves ‘Our masters glass blowers create art rarely found today. We are delighted to introduce a wide variety of shapes and vibrant colors.’ Dating is most likely to the late C20th.| Size: | Ht (max) 28cm, Top 13cm square, Base 10cm square |
| Weight: | 1.935kg |
| Date: | Late C20th |
| Condition: | Good condition, no issues. |
