LOT NUMBER 32
Floral pattern planter, Model No 887-14, Scheurich Keramik, second half C20th
A planter or small potiche of rounded bucket like form with raised borders to the base and top rim, glazed in tones of brown and red with two identical groups of three floral blooms in moulded relief, the borders at the base and top rim with repeating raised beads, the interior and base glazed brown and the bottom with raised moulded marks ‘887-14’ ‘W.GERMANY’.Although not marked as such, this potiche has all the hallmarks of the firm Scheurich Keramik which started production in 1954, rather later than most of its competitors, but soon became the largest producer of commercial art pottery in Germany. Their pieces rarely carried the factory name but usually the model number followed by the height in centimetres with ‘W.Germany’ below, as here. Model number ‘887’ was made in a variety of sizes and colour ranges and the design follows that of other floral decorated vases and jugs made by the firm, examples of which can be seen elsewhere in this auction. Dating is probably to the 1960s or 1970s.
