Dumler & Breiden was founded in 1883 by Peter Dümler and Albert Breiden and was located in Hohr Grenzhausen. During the late 19th and early 20th century they produced beer steins and punch bowls eventually moving on from the 1950s to joining the other well known West German ceramics manufacturers in producing ‘art pottery’ wares. Their pieces were often more rugged in appearance with an emphasis on colourful and textured glazes, often associated with the ‘fat lava’ style. Production eventually ceased in 1995. It is only the later pieces which were marked with their factory name, so a dating here is to the 1970s or 1980s. The repeating leaf design was also used on vases but well suits the form and colourings here.
