LOT NUMBER 28
Large floral pattern vase, Model No 287-41, Scheurich Keramik, second half C20th
A vase of large proportions, the body of broad ovoid globular form above a shallow stepped foot with a short concave neck and a modelled rounded profile rim, glazed in tones of dark green, red and black and decorated with deeply modelled moulded designs, a panel of large red floral blooms to the body with green borders above and below with large repeating beads and repeating inverted lotus leaf panels to the neck, the interior glazed brown and the base glazed green with raised moulded marks ‘287-41’ ‘W.GERMANY’.Although not marked as such, this vase has all the hallmarks of the firm Scheurich Keramik which started production in 1954, rather later than most of its competitors, but soon became the largest producer of commercial art pottery in Germany. Their pieces rarely carried the factory name but usually the model number followed by the height in centimetres with ‘W.Germany’ below, as here. Model number 287 is found in a variety of sizes and colourings, here with a striking combination of green and red which, combined with the size, contribute towards an impressive decorative item. Dating is probably to the 1960s or 1970s.
