Dumler & Breiden was founded in 1883 by Peter Dümler and Albert Breiden and located in Hohr Grenzhausen. During the late 19th and early 20th century they produced beer steins and punch bowls eventually moving on from the 1950s to joining the other well known West German ceramics manufacturers in producing ‘art pottery’ wares. Their pieces were often more rugged in appearance with an emphasis on colourful and textured glazes, often associated with the ‘fat lava’ style. Production eventually ceased in 1995. It is only the later pieces which were marked with their factory name, and the dating here probably to the 1960s or 1970s when the lava glaze patterns seem to have been particularly in vogue.
