December 20, 2019

2020 is coming and it is time to reflect on how we got here. It's all about the journey!

All told, 2019 has been a pretty good year for Intercollector.  The business has hit all its goals and we are very happy with what we have accomplished. The company is now seeing some traction, so we anticipate that 2020 will be even better, as the business sees that “hockey stick” growth everyone is so keen to talk about.

It’s been 13 years since I launched my previous business, Auction Atrium, and I well remember the harsh environment at the time. I would feel so grateful when anyone listened to me about my company and if they showed the slightest bit of interest – wow! That really was something. I think what allowed me to make any headway was my unabashed gratitude and ability to take advice. I was a mentor junkie and anyone who was even slightly more successful was a potential advisor.  I raised three rounds of financing all because I was able to get the right people on side. But I can see now that I was selling myself short. After all, I kept the company trading and growing for over 5 years. Unfortunately, I had handed over the control after three years of being in business and when I tried to get it back it was too late. My new investor had it all and the fate of my business was decided with a phone call.  A company that was founded by a woman ended with a decision made by a man.

Yes, this is a cautionary tale and one that deserves to be discussed at length – but that would bring down the tone of this blog post. The reason why I mention this now, and so many years later, is because I know that what we have developed in Intercollector is independent and strong.  We have been together since the Auction Atrium days and have experienced all the highs and lows. We are not seeking approval or advice this time around – just partners who can add an element that we are lacking and who we can help in return.  It is a great feeling to know what lies ahead and to have complete faith in the business and the people that we are working with.

2019 has been a year of achieving goals and building identity.  We look forward to 2020!
