Studio Pottery Cizhou style Bottle Vase, signed, C20th
A bottle vase of typical form with a broad globular body below a cylindrical neck, the cream glaze with scrolling lotus in raised black enamel outlined with incised lines revealing the biscuit body below, the foot rim unglazed with a countersunk glazed panel to the centre with the incised letter ‘B’. Both the form of this vase and its style of decoration follow Chinese wares, the decoration imitating ‘Cizhou’ wares where cream glazes are overpainted with designs in black. The potter’s mark cannot be identified but he has produced a highly successful adaptation of earlier wares with considerable decorative appeal.| Size: | Ht 26cm, Width (max) 17cm, Base 6cm |
