LOT NUMBER 95
Pair of Brass Doorstops, eighteenth century style lady and gentleman, probably English, C20th
A pair of solid brass figures intended to act as doorstops in the form of a lady and gentleman in eighteenth century dress supported by bark like plinths. Heavy brass ornamental items were often created for use as doorstops by English manufacturers in the years before and after the second world war. One well known firm was Peerage Brass who produced a wide range of pieces many with historical associations. The manufacturer here cannot be identified but these pieces seem to reflect the fashion and their weight makes them a more than practical accessory.
