LOT NUMBER 26
Jack in the Pulpit Vase, Alum Bay Glass, Isle of Wight, with label, late C20th
Formed in the shape of a lily with a globular base and a narrow cylindrical neck the shape of this vase is known as ‘Jack in the Pulpit’ from its resemblance to the plant. Various manufacturers produced them, including Murano, but the label on this example (see image 8) firmly identifies its maker as Alum Bay Glass on the Isle of Wight. Founded in 1972 it is one of the longest established glassworks on the island and is still trading today with a shop in ‘The Needles’ complex. Trailing swirl designs are one of its specialities in a variety of colours, here a range of purples and pinks. This model is still produced today under the name ‘Calabash’ but the particular colour scheme here is not now available and this vase probably dates to the late C20th.| Size: | Ht 27cm, Width (flower at top) 9.3cm, Width (body : max) 8.5cm |
| Weight: | 485gm |
| Date: | Late C20th |
